A report by the American Heart Association says that for African-Americans, the prevalence of high blood pressure is among the highest. More than 40 percent of non-Hispanic African-American men and women have high blood pressure. High blood pressure also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe for African-Americans.
The meat and poultry industry is the largest segment of U.S. agriculture, with U.S. meat production at 52 billion pounds in 2017. There is a significant disparity, with $38 million in government subsidies going to the meat and dairy industries, but only $17 million, or 0.04%, goes towards the fruit and vegetable industries.
