How will the Porn Industry Survive the Corona Virus?

An outbreak among sex workers “could be disastrous” — but could lead to a boom in business for subscription services like onlyfans and justfor.fans.

Yahoo News, Reports President Donald Trump’s plans to utilize the Small Business Administration in the U.S. to allocate billions to struggling businesses around the country.

The U.S. shutdown amid the pandemic will create a train reaction that will spark massive layoffs. It’s rallied the senate to quickly hash out a stimulus package to back an economy that financial experts believe has already fallen into recession.

Trump stated that the SBA would serve as a clearinghouse for “up to $50 billion” in available loans to help struggling small businesses survive the economy’s slowdown. But it’s unlikely that Porn companies will be recipients of this assistance. Most banks, including the U.S. government, don’t recognize sex work as a valid form of employment. We’ve heard stories from Porn Stars who had trouble opening a checking account.

Soon, Sex Workers will need to consider all options—Best case, worst-case scenarios and come to grips with this new reality.

So far, there have been no reported cases for COVID-19 within the Porn Community, which is unsurprising since testing isn’t widely available yet.

We can learn a lot from the sex industry. Porn Studios will be at the forefront of innovative ways to keep business as usual. They have experience dealing with at least one other major outbreak, the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s. Before getting in front of the camera, pornstars have to go through three checks for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

First, they show each other their PDAs: Each has an e-mail from a laboratory saying he or she just tested negative for H.I.V., syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea.

The film’s producer, will then check an industry database with their real names to confirm that those negative tests are less than 15 days old.

Then, they inspect their mouths, hands and genitals for sores.

The process keeps HIV-positive results relatively
rare. Medical consultants say that over 300,000 sex scenes have been filmed since 2004 and without condoms. And the last known case was in 2018 when the studios halted production after a male performer tested positive.

So what can we learn here? Regular testing before and after a shoot could be the key to success. And following the suggested CDC guidelines like sanitizing all equipment, including the studio set.

If anyone tests positive for COVID-19, the studio will stop filming. A strict policy could keep everybody safe.

Many adult performers may decide not to take the risk and use social distancing as a way to combat this epidemic. Websites like Onlyfans, Connectpal, or Just for.fans could be a helpful tool for sex workers to work from home to earn income. Even average citizens flock to their services after experiencing reduced labor hours or layoffs.

It will take a lot of work. But I believe a solution will come soon rather than later.
