Hundreds of African Families and Students Fleeing the Ukraine Warzone stranded

We can hear the cries of African immigrants, students, and families seeking refugee as the Russian invasion presses on toward the Capital of Kyiv. On Saturday evening, Feb 26th, the hashtag #AfricansinUkraine exploded on social media with videos of Africans denied entry on trains exporting people to safety across the Polish border.

Associated Press reports At least 150,000 people have fled Ukraine into neighboring countries. Africans walked for miles carrying the bare essentials and children through the night and freezing temperatures, while others tried to escape by car, forming large groups at border crossings. Many are seeking shelter as they wait for asylum. The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees agency expects up to 4 million Ukrainians could flee if the situation deteriorates further.
