Blue Beetle Movie to Make History with Latino Hero

The upcoming Blue Beetle DC Comics movie is set to make history as the first major superhero movie to center on a Latino hero. The movie stars Xolo Maridueña as the insectoid superhero, teenager Jaime Reyes, who gets his powers from an alien artifact created by the Reach. Maridueña is joined by an impressive cast of Latino actors, including Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damian Alcazar, and Belissa Escobedo, who plays Jaime’s sister Milagro. The movie also features a superhero grandmother played by Harvey Guillen and Bruna Marquezine as a gangster.

Xolo Maridueña, took to Instagram to express his gratitude towards director Angel Manuel Soto. In a heartfelt message, Maridueña thanked Soto for his guidance throughout the filming process, calling him “the most fantastic director” and “the only man for this job.” The actor also expressed how proud he is to be Soto’s “son” and how deserving the director is of all the recognition he is receiving.
